Olympics 2004 in Athens

August 18, 2004 - 4:48am

Watching the Olympics tonight on TV. For some reason it has been really emotional for me. I'm sitting here watching women's gymnastics and I'm crying. Well, not so much crying as leaking. The ups and downs of the routines just make me feel so much. It's an amazing sport. It's an amazing event. I can't even begin to imagine how these athletes must feel. Wow.

Tonight was the 1st time I tuned into the Olympics this year and I'm glad I did. Kenny was anxious as we watched the men's relay in swimming... and I agree, these athletes are so strong in terms of their ability to withstand the pressure!

The audience (both live and television) of this year's Olympics is supposed to be horrible. What's weird is that I feel more enthusiastic about this year's games than any other. I think that it is refreshing to finally see something, on television, about America that we can be proud of.

Come on. Girls gymanstics? They're 12! I'm sure that one waffle cone ice cream will get them over the pains of losing. Other sports are different. I just watched Shot Putt. Have no interest in it, but found myself enthralled. IT was held on the grounds of the very first EVERY sport compititions. 2000 years ago. Wow. Insane. Plus I'm drunk ;)

That's pretty insensitive to say that Olympians, 12 years old (which is a bit of an exaggeration) or not would "get over it with a waffle cone". Shot put? Some meathead hurling a heavy ball? Okaaaaaaay......

Just as a point of fact, the youngest member of the US women's gymnastics team is 16. Oldest is 25.

As a shot-put throwing meathead, my feelings were hurt by your insensitivity. I would accept a waffle cone as an apology. And, incidentally, I didn’t qualify for the Olympics since I’m fifteen--which is one year too young to compete internationally.

"The audience (both live and television) of this year's Olympics is supposed to be horrible. What's weird is that I feel more enthusiastic about this year's games than any other." I'm more pissed off at the announcers. Unless the US is absolutely going to medal (and by a wide margin), they've been too busy butt-kissing the other countries and pointing out our mistakes. It makes me feel terrible for the US athletes that have been trying so hard--everyone makes mistakes.
