It's cooling off in Phoenix which means it's time for bicycle alleycat races! Chris says there's a very specific season for these races (Oct - May) and we're in it. Friday night, October 23, there was a sprint race down Central Avenue in downtown Phoenix called Central Slayer. I was fighting a cold and am generally not much for sprinting so I chose to take pictures rather than race.
It was a quick ride (only about 3 miles) but there was a great showing with 70+ riders. There was a crash, but luckily he wasn't hurt badly - only scratches and bruises. The story was told over and over because of the sparks his pedals caused when coming in contact with the curb. I'm sure it was a sight to see.
Fun was had by all plus money was raised for the bicycle co-op, The Rusty Spoke. The prizes were amazing due to sponsorship from Kore Bikes, Nixon, Electric, Bicycle Haus, Cherry Bombin Wear, and AZFixed. Thanks to Hot City Destroyers for putting on a fun night! I'm lucky to be a part of such an awesome cycling community in Phoenix.

A couple more drawings from my class. I can see definite improvement! I just need to make the time to practice drawing more often and I'm sure I'll get even better.
Beautiful, fascinating visualization of cell size & scale.
People Powered Movement Photo Contest from AllianceBikeWalk on Vimeo.
Read about the People Powered Movement Photo Contest. I guess it's time to get my camera out and get serious about taking pictures of biking in Phoenix. It would be awesome to win, but the photos are for a great cause! They'll be added to the Biking & Walking Advocacy Library that will provide free high quality images of biking and walking to Alliance organizations.
U2 is my favorite band. Their music has touched me throughout my life and continues to do so. They hold a very special place in my heart. I've been lucky enough to have seen U2 in concert three times in Dallas and now once in Phoenix. Tuesday night was the fourth live show I've attended.
U2 performed at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona for the 360 Tour. It was a great show with a HUGE stage. Reportedly the largest stage ever created. (It was impressive, but I like the curtain of lights from the last tour a bit better.) The best part of the show for me was attending with Chris and my best friend, Summer, who flew in all the way from Denver!

This is how I feel today:

Thanks to my niece for making the face that I can't make.
Something Chris and I have discussed more than once.
New Belgium Brewery knows how to throw and awesome party. Tour De Fat in Tempe, Arizona on Saturday, October 10, 2009 was awesome! Tons of money (tens of thousands of dollars!!!) was raised for Tempe Bicycle Action Group, Bike Saviours, and The Mountain Bike Association of Arizona. At the end of the party, it was announced that Tempe raised the most money of any city that has held Tour De Fat this year. Awesome!
Chris and I spent the first half of the festival volunteering. We helped at Wristband Camp, where IDs were checked and wristbands administered. For about three hours it was fast and furious, but everyone was really great. Then we got to enjoy the afternoon together and with many of our friends.
